IMMERSIVE LEARNING FOR SAFE AND INCLUSIVE WORKPLACES

EXISTING TRAININGS ARE BROKEN

Traditional inclusion trainings don’t cut it.

Many organisational trainings are aimed at teaching individuals a “right” type of behaviour by means of simple quizzes with correct and incorrect answers. In doing so, they assume a simple silver bullet approach to becoming more inclusive.

Employees also experience these trainings as judgmental, non-engaging and boring. The result? No meaningful conversations and no real measurable change.

DISCOVER A BETTER WAY OF LEARNING

IT’S UP TO YOU provides interactive immersive simulation trainings for organisations to create safer & inclusive workplaces at scale. Using experiential learning, employees experiment with fictional office situations by acting as the main character and experiencing the consequences of their actions. Afterwards, they participate in an offline or online group-based workshop towards realising measurable outcomes on all organisational levels.

HOW IT WORKS

The 1/2 day training (online or offline) consists of 3 parts.

It's up to you training
  • Participants start off by going through an immersive simulation, using their laptop/pc or VR headset. They experience the fictional story of an employee recounting different fictional events at the office. The viewer chooses how the employee responds in different situations and experiences the consequences of those choices. The simulation can play out in more than 80 different ways. Employees are encouraged to go the simulation 2-3 times and experiment with different choices.

  • In the second part, the knowledge participants gained from the simulation is put to use in a group-based workshop. Participants are encouraged to reflect on their own attitudes and behaviors. They form a group consensus as to what they believe is needed to create a more inclusive working environment.

  • In the last part, employees define concrete and measurable initiatives that are needed to drive the change. They define KPIs, create a planning and assign ownership for the implementation on relevant levels within the organisation. The group also explicitly commits to buy-in for the change.

TWO TRAINING PLANS

We offer two plans: A facilitated and self-facilitated training. Organisations typically start with the facilitated training for their key leadership teams and scale up to their whole workforce with the more cost-effective self-facilitated training.

1. FACILITATED TRAINING

GUIDED TO RESULT

5 - 25 employees per training

Best for executive-, leadership- and impact teams. No prep time, no worries. We take care of everything on-site.

    • Up to 5 hour training program

    • 3 free follow up sessions included

    • Tailored to your needs

    • Fully facilitated by professional trainers

  • We bring the latest VR Headsets fully prepared to experience the simulation in the best possible way.

There is no need to get your own technologies and equipment sorted out.

Don’t like headsets? No problem; we bring other options such as iPads and laptops as well.

  • Our dedicated trainers are all professionally trained to work with IT’S UP TO YOU, so that they can provide you the most effective training possible.

  • We also bring all the necessary equipment, print-outs and workshops material and ensure everything is up and running perfectly on-site

  • We facilitate on-site in the EU and US, and can deliver this experience nearly anywhere in the world (online).

  • The training can be tailored to fit the needs of your particular team. Executive teams will be guided to define overall strategy and policy, while other teams will focus on more pragmatic initiatives and behavioral change.

In addition, the simulation experience can be customized to better represent your organizational context.

2. SELF-FACILITATED TRAINING

SCALE TO THE WHOLE ORGANIZATION

250 - 5000+ employees

Best for all other teams. Self-facilitated online or offline by your own employees. Including Train-the-Trainer sessions.

    • Up to 5 hour training program

    • 3 free follow up sessions included

    • You facilitate the group trainings yourself, based on the training material provided by us

  • You go through an online version of the simulation on your own devices, such as a tablet or laptop. This is less immersive, but gives you maximum flexibility to train larger employee groups.

  • Your employees facilitate the training based on the training material provided by us. The training is still conducted in groups (5-25 participants per group), but internal employees take on the role of facilitator. Typically this is done by HR or team managers, or someone within the team.

  • We’ll provide a comprehensive facilitation guide as well as digital versions of the required workshop material.

  • We will host a 1 hour Q&A session with the employees who will be facilitate the training. You will learn how to best prepare the workshop materials and technology, facilitate in the most effective way and ensure optimal training outcomes.

  • Based on the number of employees participating, we can provide both real-time and e-mail support when needed.

FAQ

  • The term Inclusion is somewhat of an umbrella term that is used to describe different things and includes a range of topics.

IT’S UP TO YOU, by design, is tailored to fit an organization’s specific topics and needs. Some organizations might struggle with phycological safety in their teams, others with racism or discrimination. Others have yet to define an overall strategy on inclusion as a whole within the organisation.

By ensuring that the training is adaptable (out-of-the-box) to meet these different organizational needs, we ensure that we can help organizations make real impact on the area’s that matter most for them.

  • The IT’S UP TO YOU trainings are typically used at three different levels: (executive) Leadership, team/project leads and operational teams.

Depending on the specific team that undergoes the training, the types of outcomes and commitments made during the exercises vary. For example: While leadership related outcomes are typically aimed at the overall inclusion strategy and broader policies that affect the full organisation, operational teams are more focus on bottom-up collaboration, team safety & culture and and communication type commitments.

  • IT’S UP TO TOU consists of a 1/2 day team training that is either facilitated by our dedicated trainers (on location) or self-facilitated by teams (online).

    The training contains 3 parts:

Employees start off by going through an immersive simulation, using their laptop/pc or VR headset. They experience the fictional story of a manager recounting different fictional events at the office. The viewer chooses how the manager responds in different situations and experiences the consequences of those choices. The simulation can play out in more than 80 different ways. Employees are encouraged to go the simulation 2-3 times and experiment with different choices.

In second part, the knowledge participants gained from the simulation is put to use in a group-based workshop. Participants are encouraged to reflect on their own attitudes and behaviors. They form a group consensus as to what they believe is needed to create a more inclusive working environment.

In the last part, employees define concrete and measurable initiatives that are needed to drive the change. They define KPIs, create a planning and assign ownership for the implementation on relevant levels within the organisation. The group also explicitly commits to buy-in for the change.

  • Immersive trainings bring multiple benefits. First and foremost, It allows participants to experiment with near real-life situations without actually having to experience them.

This significantly increases participant engagement and the willingness to talk about specific - oftentimes difficult to discuss) - topics. The experimentation part also ensures that participants experience a range of different perspectives, allowing them to talk about the topics in meaningful ways.

Participants also train faster, are more confident in applying what they learned, are more connected to the actual content and more focused. In addition, it can be a cost-effective means of experiential learning compared to bringing in professional actors on location. For more information, also see PWC’s study on VR learning.

  • For executive and key leadership teams, our professional trainers can provide a fully-facilitated 1/2 training with potential follow-up sessions if needed. We take care of everything on-site, from preparation to execution. It is a hassle free experience.

To scale the training towards other teams in the organisation, we offer a self-facilitated training. That means that employees (such as HR or team managers) facilitate the training for their teams themselves. We provide online access to the simulation as well as a comprehensive facilitation manual. In addition, we can provide on-demand support and train-the-trainer sessions.

  • No you don’t have to!

Using dedicated VR headsets is a great way to experience the interactive simulation, but rolling that experience out to thousands of employees can be a challenge.

That’s why we have designed the simulation from the ground up to be scaleable, so it also works on typical office devices (such as laptops, desktops and tablets). In addition, the group-based workshop excercises that follow the simulation can be run both offline as well as online.
